About

Mintiness is a small creative outlet for messing around with html, css, javascript, and php. While I might work with web design a bit on a professional level, I don't have an outlet to just play for the fun of it. I miss the spirit of the old internet that predated smartphones, corporate social media, and lack of customization. Since there seems to be a resurgance of this in recent years due to the disdain of social media and alogrithims, I thought it would be fun to create a small personal site and art gallery!

Nostalgia

Social media for a long time has dominated how we spent time on the web. Though I'm really nostalgic for the times before smartphones. Webdesign went from a hobby to a strict profession. While I did go on to pursue some light web development and design professionally, I miss the hobbist aspects! I miss the times when websites were viewed only only on PCs or laptops. I also long for the days when a dear friend learned some new cool code in javascript or php and wrote a tutorial.

Personal webdesign history I began making websites like these in 1997 in my sophomore year of high school. I began with Geocities, gURLpages and then moved on to get my little sites hosted by others (livin' the dream). Eventually I bought my first domain sweet-essence.net, then december-rain.org (which I still own but I don't do anything with it). I had some of those coveted .nu domain names such as Overload.nu, Valkyrie.nu, and I still own Quicksilver.nu (my shrine collective).

About Mintiness

I purchased Mintiness some time ago with the intent to make something cute or lolita fashion related. It just never came to be. I hosted some fanlistings and some small projects here in the past. Otherwise, it's been pretty barren here. I got the urge to make a new site like this, and decided focusing on pixels and art would be a lot of fun. Mintiness is a cute name, so here we are!

Technical

I hand code everything on the website with EditPad Lite and create my graphics with Adobe Photoshop. Mintiness is hosted on my Linode account, which I would only recommend for very experienced and technical web developers, as there are issues that I can't seem to fix by myself! n_n; My hosting space is more like a playground for me so that I have a reason to learn more technical things that I wouldn't encounter in my own job. You see, I need a reason to learn things and that reason usually needs to be rooted in fun and play.
